Definition
A BDR is a business development representative who prospects new accounts. In most B2B companies BDR and SDR are used interchangeably, though BDR often skews to outbound only.
Why it matters
The role exists because prospecting is a full time skill. Asking closers to prospect leaves both meetings and revenue on the table.
How it works
- Researches accounts and identifies buying committee
- Runs outbound sequences across channels
- Qualifies fit and hands off to the closer
- Tracks meetings booked and pipeline created
